Performing Arts Live
Winners of the American Prize in Chamber Music, Seraph Brass joins the Shenandoah Conservatory Wind Ensemble for a special performance celebrating the diversity of contemporary brass repertoire. Seraph Brass — a group hailed for its “fine playing” (Gramophone) and “staggeringly high caliber of performance” (Textura) — performs signature brass repertoire such as the prelude to Edvard Grieg’s Holberg Suite, op. 40, and joins the Wind Ensemble for an arrangement of Leonard Bernstein’s Mass and the East Coast premiere of Jennifer Jolley’s Dust, a concerto for brass quintet and wind ensemble. The program also features the Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Timothy J. Robblee, performing Michael Gandolfi’s Vientos y Tangos and Joseph Schwantner’s From a Dark Millennium, as well as a new work composed by this year’s William Averitt Prize for Excellence in Composition Alex Corley ’24 (Bachelor of Music in Composition). In a mass brass grand finale, students join our faculty and special guest artists for a rousing and celebratory fanfare.
