Peace
The Symphony Orchestra presents a performance dedicated to peace, highlighting music by composers from Ukraine, Russia and Mexico, including the Ukrainian-born Prokofiev and Russian Stalin-dissident Shostakovich. The first half features the rousing Conga del Fuego Nuevo (the “New Fire”) composed by Arturo Márquez and Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1 in E-flat Major, op. 107, featuring Associate Professor of Cello Julian Schwarz as a guest soloist. Prokofiev’s Lieutenant Kijé Suite and Polovtsian Dances from Prince Igor by Georgian-born Alexander Borodin, round out the program.
