Harmony Through History: A Choral Journey Through Time

Music has the power to transcend time, connecting us to moments long past and inspiring hope for the future. As Shenandoah University prepares to celebrate its sesquicentennial anniversary, join the choral ensembles for a program spanning centuries of choral music, from timeless classical compositions to poignant contemporary works.

Lean In & Engage

Q: What are students learning or experiencing through this process?

“Students are immersing themselves in a rich tapestry of choral literature spanning centuries and cultures, deepening their musicality, ensemble collaboration, historical awareness and expressive storytelling through music.”
– Richard W. Robbins, director

Q: What excites you about this performance?

“It’s inspiring to bring together such a wide range of musical eras and styles in one program, and to witness how our students find personal and collective meaning in connecting the past with the present through music. For example, the performance of shape note music from the Shenandoah Valley offers a deeply rooted and uniquely regional connection to our university’s history.”
– Richard W. Robbins, director

Q: What are you excited about for audiences to experience?

“Audiences will experience an emotional and historical journey through choral music that highlights both the evolution of sound and the timeless human spirit at the heart of these works—brought to life by the passion and talent of our student performers.”
– Richard W. Robbins, director
