Moving Forces
Moving Forces includes works by guest choreographer Casey Noblett and faculty choreographers Tiffanie Carson, Erica Helm, Michael Lomeka and Charlie Maybee. The program features a range of dance styles from traditional to contemporary, and includes the re-staging of Helm’s Third Construction with live accompaniment by the (SU)PERcussion Ensemble, directed by Earl Yowell.
Program Highlights
Third Construction by Erica Helm
The (SU)PERcussion Ensemble, directed by Earl Yowell, is the guest ensemble for Third Construction choreographed by Erica Helm. This dynamic work has the dancers flying across the stage like lighting bolts, commanding the space and challenging each other to leap and turn and soar ever higher to an exciting percussion score.
Strange Birds/Thrashing Goddesses by Charlie Maybee
Charlie Maybee’s new tap ensemble work, Strange Birds/Thrashing Goddesses, is part of an ongoing experiment of integrating punk aesthetics with tap dance technique. This cast of tap dancing misfits bend genres to their will as they thrash through an abrasive new world.
Rites of Passage by Michael Lomeka
“Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no one’s definition of your life; define yourself.” – Robert Frost
