Border Jazz
Known for their electrifying performances and adventurous programming, internationally acclaimed saxophonist Nicolas Prost and pianist Sébastien Paindestre present Border Jazz, a program that pushes the boundaries of their instruments with dazzling technique and expressive depth. Featuring a vibrant mix of classical works and contemporary pieces, this concert promises a thrilling journey through the versatility of the modern saxophone and jazz piano.
“At the border of Jazz”, this program is a real challenge by associating a classical concertist Nicolas Prost with a jazz musician Sébastien Paindestre. It is a elabored learned jazz or imaginary classic with openness to improvisation. The program is given exclusively since it is only about pieces written for the duo Nicolas Prost and Sebastien Paindestre touring in Europe, the United States and Japan. All the composers—including Wayne Shorter, Branford Marsalis, Chris Potter, Bob Mintzer, James Carter, Paquito D Rivera, Brad Mehldau, John MacLaughlin, Dave Liebman, Ibrahim Maalouf, John Patitucci, John Helliwell, Bojan Z, Daniel Humair, Anne Paceo, Baptiste Herbin, Michel Portal, Baptiste Trotignon, Henri Texier, Alban Darche, Airelle Besson, Céline Bonacina, Pierrick Pedron, Avishai Cohen, Franck Tortiller, François Jeanneau, Riccardo del Fra, Dave Schroeder, Nguyen Le, Laurent de Wilde, Philippe Portejoie, Olivier Calmel, Stéphane Colin, Alban Darche, Rich Shemaria, Leïla Olivesi, Claude Barthelemy, Sébastien Paindestre—evolve in the world of jazz and popular music and have had specifications to compose à la classique. These are recognized artists who attract a new audience here through the mixing of these two musical universes attracted to each other, like Gershwin and Bernstein in the twentieth century. In addition to the world premieres dedicated to the duo, there are some pieces of a famous chamber music literature in this double-style, included composers Phil Woods, Michel Petrucciani, Tony Murena, Chick Corea, John Zorn, Radiohead and more.
