~Nois Quartet

Shenandoah New Music

Take your preconceptions of ‘noise’ and toss them out the window. Equal parts “fiendishly good and fiendishly goofy” (Chicago Tribune), ~Nois Quartet is a “prolific, charismatic young ensemble that is swiftly becoming the American saxophone quartet du jour” (Musical America). At the core of ~Nois’ ethos is a fierce dedication to the commissioning of living composers, leading to more than 120 world premieres. Founded in 2016, this award-winning Chicago-based ensemble is dedicated to championing new music for saxophone and building community through innovative, inclusive and exceptional musical experiences.

Bringing its adventurous spirit to Bright Box Theater, ~Nois Quartet presents a captivating program showcasing the expressive possibilities of the saxophone quartet. Featuring Nico Muhly’s Ordinary Time, Jessie Montgomery’s Break Away, Elijah Daniel Smith’s Chaotic Instinct, Paul Novak’s Vigils and Travis Laplante’s Running in a Field of Flowers, the evening explores a vibrant landscape of contemporary music, from moments of introspection and lyrical beauty to bold experimentation and exhilarating energy.

Bright Box Theater’s intimate, lively atmosphere offers the perfect setting for an adventurous evening of music in downtown Winchester. Settle in at a cocktail table and enjoy a drink or bite to eat as you experience the energy of live performance up close. The venue’s bar features a selection of wine, craft beer and cocktails, with food and beverage service beginning one hour before the performance.
