Contemporary Works by Vivian Fung

The Symphony Orchestra and Clarinet Choir partner to celebrate works written by JUNO Award-winning composer Vivian Fung. Program highlights include Fung’s new Concerto for Trumpet co-commissioned by the Shenandoah Conservatory Symphony Orchestra and featuring special guest soloist and Assistant Professor of Trumpet Mary Elizabeth Bowden, as well as Shaman Speaks for clarinet choir and Pizzicato.

Themes & Variations

The Symphony Orchestra presents an evening of engaging and enchanting music including Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s Symphonic Variations on an African Air, Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations and Sergei Rachmaninoff’s arrangement of Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini featuring Shenandoah Conservatory’s new Assistant Professor of Piano Alexander Bernstein ’16.

From the Hearts of Women

The Symphony Orchestra welcomes back soprano and 2017 alumna Victoria Okafor for an evening of lush and textured music, including two extraordinary works for voice and orchestra. The program includes Samuel Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915, Grant Still’s song cycle From the Hearts of Women and Ravel’s brilliant arrangement of Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky.
