Symphony Orchestra Chile Tour Benefit Concert

The Symphony Orchestra embarks on its third international tour in May 2020 to Chile following its highly successful tours to Argentina in 2017 and Spain in March 2014. Proceeds from the concert benefit the members of the Symphony Orchestra. Works include Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story and Sergie Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances.

Applauded as “a perfect encapsulation of today’s trends in chamber music,” the award-winning PUBLIQuartet lends a fresh perspective to the music scene. Dedicated to presenting new works, PUBLIQuartet’s genre-bending programs not only expand the techniques and aesthetic of the traditional string quartet, but also present a wide variety of under-represented music and contemporary composers.

The Body, the Voice, the Instrument

The Shenandoah Conservatory Dance Ensemble performs original works choreographed by Maurice Fraga, Shylo Martinez and Matt Pardo in a powerful artistic alliance with the Shenandoah Conservatory choirs and Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Matt Oltman, Karen Keating and guest conductor Nadège Foofat. Highlights include performances of “Choral Dances” from Benjamin Britten’s coronation opera, Gloriana; a new adaptation of Edward Elgar’s Sea Pictures, op. 37 for chorus and orchestra; and the glorious Serenade to Music by Ralph Vaughan Williams.

Concessions will be available for cash purchase beginning one hour prior to this performance.

Symphonic Delights

Visiting guest conductor Nadège Foofat leads a program of French symphonic masterpieces, including Louise Farrenc’s Symphony No. 2, Debussy’s Iberia and Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G Major featuring faculty member Ieva Jokubaviciute. An expert on the orchestral works of the early romantic composer Louise Farrenc, Foofat invites you to discover one of the great masterpieces Farrenc wrote and received critical acclaim for in Paris in 1845.

1876: Grieg & Brahms

The Symphony Orchestra presents an evening of orchestral works from 1876. This program features Brahms’ monumental Symphony No. 1 in C Minor, op. 68 and Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite, originally composed as incidental music for Henrik Ibsen’s 1876 play of the same name.
