Dear Alumni and Friends,
We kicked off May 2016 with the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival. I am proud to announce that Shenandoah University’s float won second place in the Communities Participation Non-Professionally Build category. This is the 6th straight year that SU has placed in this category. The float was designed by alumnus and Armstrong Concert Hall Production Manager Michael Jones ’02, and constructed with the assistance of Andrew Howard.
We completed Shenandoah’s first ever Day of Giving. The goal of $10,000 was surpassed and we raised a grand total of $12,550 in one day. It was an amazing day with our alumni coming together to make a difference! Thank you for helping to build a brighter future for the next generation of SU students.
Shenandoah University’s Board of Trustees approved plans for a new, 77,000-square-foot indoor athletics and event center for the university’s 21 athletics teams to be located next to Shentel Stadium. The center will be used by the campus community and Winchester community. Click here for more details.
I had the pleasure of greeting SU’s 2016 graduating class on Saturday, May 14 and welcoming them to our association of over 18,000 alumni. Bo Callahan ’58 led the Class of 2016 into the tent for their graduation.
The Nursing Alumni Reception & Unveiling of the Eleanor Wade Custer Portrait is scheduled for the evening of May 20 and the Alumni Board of Directors Meeting is Saturday, May 21. The board has a full agenda which includes a tour of the Shenandoah River Campus at Cool Springs Battlefield.
It doesn’t matter how long ago you graduated from SU. You are family and SU is home. Now that the “portal” entrance to campus is complete…it is like SU has open arms to welcome you back home. Be sure to stop in and say hello!
See you soon,
Becky Merriner (B ’01)
President, SU Alumni Association
