Kimberly McDonald ’08, ’12 is currently employed by SU as a human resources and benefits manager.
After receiving her graduate certificate in public management in 2008, and master’s degree in organizational leadership in 2012, McDonald worked for the City of Winchester as a payroll and benefits coordinator.
As a lifelong resident of the Winchester and Frederick County area, I feel it is important to support SU since it is vibrant part of the community. As an alumna and employee of the university, I am proud to represent and share my experience with incoming faculty and staff.”
Throughout her career, McDonald has enjoyed meeting wonderful people who bring their talents to an organization to enhance its dynamics and seeing how that adds to the success of the organization.
There is no more satisfaction than in helping people with their benefit questions. I also assist with the orientation for new staff and this aspect is so wonderful in that it makes them aware of what Shenandoah University is about.”
This year, McDonald is most looking forward to the opening of the Health & Life Sciences Building. “It is so exciting on main campus and the expansion at the Northern Virginia Campus in Leesburg demonstrates fantastic growth for SU.”
McDonald has strong roots in Winchester. Her parents were part of the apple industry in the area for several generations. She was part of the family business that included a farm market and wholesale produce for many years until she moved into the public sector with her job with the City of Winchester.
In her free time McDonald enjoys visiting Virginia vineyards, wine tasting, knitting and traveling. “I also enjoy walks with my pocket Pomeranian, Tinkerbelle.”
“I have two daughters who have brought me great joy and are very independent and successful in their own right,” said McDonald. After she completed college, her oldest daughter spent five years working with the Charitable Foundation for the Washington Redskins. Her youngest daughter was Miss Apple Blossom Festival 2012 and was in the top 10 at the 2012 Miss Virginia Pageant. Both live in the Northern Virginia/D.C. area.
