Homecoming 2022 | September 29 – October 2
We’re very excited to welcome everyone back to campus for Shenandoah University Homecoming 2022! Enjoy live entertainment, food, and festivities at the Homecoming Tailgate Party and stay to cheer on the football team with the new Shenandoah University Marching Band! Alumni athletes can compete against each other and/or current student-athletes in various alumni athletic events and we will be highlighting Alumni-Owned Businesses at our networking reception.
Homecoming registration closes at midnight on Tuesday, Sept. 27. Walk-ins will be accepted at all of the events. If you would like to check out the full list of all the Homecoming events, see the schedule below.
There are a few options for Tailgate Party parking – please be sure to read on for VERY IMPORTANT details! FREE parking can be found in the Brandt Student Center parking lot and/or parking garage (shuttles will be available to take you over to the Wilkins Athletics & Events Center). If you’d rather park closer to the action, parking in the Wilkins Athletics & Events Center (WAEC) costs $10 per space and must be purchased in advance (choose “Home Parking” or “Garage Parking”); please note that regardless of the option you select, the first SU fans to arrive will be directed to the WAEC lot and overflow will go into the garage. You’re free to tailgate in your parking space, but if you’d like some additional tailgating room, purchase the $30 “HOME Tailgating” option in advance (IN ADDITION to your $10 parking) to have a reserved tailgating space in the Hornet Athletics tailgating area, a grassy area next to the Wilkins Athletics & Events Center.
There are no cash sales at the parking entrance or Shentel Stadium gate, so be sure to purchase parking (and your tickets to the Homecoming Football Game) online in advance. Be sure to have your digital parking ticket ready on your phone when you approach the parking entrance. Digital parking tickets and game tickets cannot be screenshots. Visit the university’s Where to Stay page to take a look at local hotels that offer discounts to Shenandoah visitors, parents, students and alumni. When calling to make your reservation, be sure to mention you are visiting Shenandoah University to get a discounted rate.
Homecoming 2022 Schedule of Events
Rebecca Rischin, clarinet, 7:30 p.m.
Location: Goodson Chapel – Recital Hall
Guest clarinetist Rebecca Rischin presents a free recital.
Late Night Bingo, 9 p.m. (Eastern)
Location: The Hornet Grill, Brandt Student Center; and offered virtually via Zoom
Participate (either in-person or virtually) with current students for the chance to win cool prizes, which, like in previous years, won’t disappoint! There will be gift cards, electronics, SU-themed prizes and more. If you join in-person, please remember to bring your phone, laptop or iPad to play along. Those who attend in-person will also enjoy sweet snacks. Prizes will be awarded on-site; those who join virtually and win will have their prizes mailed to them. Don’t miss your chance to win!
Alson H. Smith, Jr. Library 30th Anniversary Celebration, 3 p.m.
Location: Alson H. Smith, Jr. Library
We’ll gather in the Alson H. Smith, Jr. Library to celebrate its 30th anniversary, and reflect on how our libraries have served the Shenandoah community. We will share brief stories, appreciations, or confessions about the Smith and Howe Libraries. There will also be light refreshments provided during the event.
Conservatory Buzzy Statue Unveiling, 4 p.m.
Location: Abrams Creek Amphitheatre, just outside Ruebush Hall
Join us for the unveiling of our new Buzzy statue. This statue was made possible by a generous gift for the beautification of campus.
Alumni-Owned Business Networking Reception & Awards Recognition, 6 p.m.
Location: Second floor of the Bright Box Theater (15 N Loudoun St, Winchester, VA 22601)
We are excited to highlight our alumni-owned businesses and give alumni, current Shenandoah students and the Winchester community the opportunity to network with them. We will also recognize the 2022 Distinguished Alumni Awards recipients at the event. Below is the full list of award recipients. There will be light refreshments. This event is free if you pre-register; and $5 at the door.

Jasper String Quartet, 8 p.m. ($17)

Jasper String Quartet is recognized as one of the leading American string quartets on the performance stage today. A recipient of Chamber Music America’s prestigious Cleveland Quartet Award, the quartet has been hailed as “sonically delightful and expressively compelling,” (The Strad), and The New York Times named their album Unbound as one of the 25 Best Classical Recordings of 2017. Old Town Crawl, 9 p.m. ($10)
Location: Downtown Winchester
Get your pub crawl cards stamped at various Downtown Winchester restaurants, then post a picture taken that night at one of the locations on social media using #SUpubcrawl to receive an “I survived the Old Town Crawl” T-shirt. This event is geared toward individuals 21 and older; however, those who are underage may still participate by purchasing food and non-alcoholic beverages at Pub Crawl stops. Attendees should check in at Shenandoah University’s Feltner Building at the corner of Loudoun and Boscawen streets (look for the tent across from El Centro).
Women’s Lacrosse Alumnae Game, 10 a.m.
Location: Aikens Stadium
Women’s Lacrosse alumnae are invited to return to campus and play alongside your fellow alumnae as you take on the current Shenandoah University Women’s Lacrosse team!
Homecoming & Family Weekend Tailgate Party, 11 a.m. ($20)
Location: James R. Wilkins, Jr. Athletics & Events Center
Get ready for the big game at the Homecoming & Family Weekend Tailgate Party! Take in some great music, enjoy face painting, inflatables and much, much more! Your admission is $20, which includes FREE food and drink bucks ($25 value per guest) to be used at the various food vendors on-site, as well as at the beer & wine garden. Join in eating delicious food, and enjoy an assortment of games and activities for all ages!

Alumni Golf Tournament, 1 p.m. (Individual: $85; Team: $340)
Location: Shenandoah Valley Golf Club (134 Golf Club Cir, Front Royal, VA 22630)
Join your Shenandoah family in a Hornet takeover of the Shenandoah Valley Golf Club for our sixth annual Homecoming Golf Tournament! Check-in is at noon and the tournament begins at 1 p.m. Each tournament ticket includes: a round of golf, cart and green fees, SU alumni welcome gifts, a box lunch, beverages (beer and soft drinks) and a chance to win on-course prizes (Long Drive and Closest to the Pin)! Homecoming Football Game vs. Ferrum, 1 p.m.
Location: Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium
Cheer on the Shenandoah University Hornets Football team as they take on Ferrum! During halftime, you can also look forward to seeing the Distinguished Alumni Award recipients honored, along with many other Homecoming festivities! Tickets and parking ($10) must be purchased online ahead of time; cash WILL NOT be accepted. Pricing is as follows: reserved seats (all ages) $15; general admission adult (13 years old and over) $10; general admission youth (seven to 12 years old) $5; six and under general admission is FREE. The social will give alumni the opportunity to reconnect with one another, faculty and staff as well as make new connections with our outstanding current Shenandoah University students.
Shenandoah Conservatory Symphony Orchestra: Humor & Pranks, 7:30 p.m. ($14)
Location: Armstrong Concert Hall
Kick off the Symphony Orchestra season with a performance exploring the humorous side of the classical canon. Program highlights include Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8 in F Major, op. 93; Strauss’s Till Eulenspiegels lustige Streiche (Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks), op. 18 and Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen (Songs of a Wayfarer) featuring Shenandoah Conservatory voice faculty member David Meyer, baritone.
