You DON’T have to be on campus to celebrate Shenandoah University Homecoming 2020! Hornets across the nation and around the world are encouraged to celebrate Shenandoah wherever they are, with tons of opportunities to participate virtually this year!
Homecoming 2020 Schedule of Events
Virtual SU Trivia Night, 6:30 p.m. (EST)
Join us for Virtual SU Trivia Night, and answer questions based on the university’s history, as well as fun facts about the campus, Shenandoah alumni, and maybe even some local Winchester trivia! Winners will receive their prizes via email or regular mail after the event concludes. Don’t miss your chance to win!
“Careers with the Government” Virtual Alumni Panel, 1 p.m. (EST)
Meet and network with Shenandoah alumni who are currently employed and/or recruiting for employment with the government! This panel will be structured as a question & answer forum, and will allow both Shenandoah students and alumni to ask questions and network.
J. Robert “Bobby” Spencer ’91 Live Virtual Performance, 7 p.m. (EST)
Join us as we enjoy a special live performance by Shenandoah Conservatory alumnus J. Robert “Bobby” Spencer ’91! Bobby holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Musical Theatre, is the 2009 recipient of an Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts from Shenandoah University, and is a Tony Award nominated actor, independent film director, producer and has performed over 1,000 concerts worldwide with his singing group The Midtown Men. His numerous film, television and theatre credits include originating the role of Nick Massi in the Tony and GRAMMY Award-Winning Broadway Musical “Jersey Boys” and the role of Dan Goodman in “Next to Normal.” Watch Bobby performing with the Midtown Men (music begins at 6:11) and hear more about Bobby in this podcast, which features the story of making his Broadway debut, how he’s handling the pandemic, and the why and how of moving into filmmaking, concerts, and songwriting, and more!
Virtual Pit Party, 9 p.m. (EST)
Ready your instruments, warm up your singing voices and bring your excitement to the Virtual Pit Party, which allows alumni to reminisce about all the good times had at the old Pit, a popular hangout for Shenandoah students “back in the day.” Never had a chance to visit this former student hot spot? You’re still welcome to join in and hear stories about the fun shenanigans! If you’ve got a fire pit or fire table outside, fire it up to get that festive feel!
Music Educators Virtual Happy Hour, 5 p.m. (EST)
Music Education alumni are invited to join in on a happy hour celebration to reunite, connect and hear from faculty and students in the Music Education Program. Information about the upcoming VMEA virtual conference will be shared.
Virtual Paint Night with Easely Created, 7 p.m. (EST)
Dust off your artistic skills and join in on this online class with Melanie of Easely Created in Winchester. We will be painting a beautiful landscape of Sarah’s Glen on the main Shenandoah University campus. A list of the supplies needed for the painting will be posted no later than one week prior to the event, so that participants can purchase the paints, brushes and canvas that they will need. This event is FREE, but you must register in advance, as the limit for this event is the first 100 to sign up.
Virtual Bingo, 8 p.m. (EST)
Participate in this annual Homecoming tradition, with a virtual twist. Join current Shenandoah University students for some rounds of Virtual Bingo, and, just like in previous years, the prizes won’t disappoint… there will be gift cards, electronics, SU-themed prizes and more! Winners will receive their prizes via email or regular mail after the event concludes. Don’t miss your chance to win!
Virtual At-Home Pub Crawl, 9 p.m. (EST)
Join Shenandoah University alumna Cassie Womack ’07, bar manager at Bidwell (Washington, D.C.) and founder of In’Amorata Of Mixology LLC, for a Shenandoah-themed cocktail hour, in which Cassie will demonstrate how to mix some fun drinks, including a mocktail and traditional, infusion and craft cocktails. A list of the supplies needed for mixing the drinks will be posted no later than one week prior to the event, so that participants can purchase what they will need for the cocktails they’d like to follow along with. Cassie will also touch on beers and wines, and give you insight into the best distributors, breweries and vineyards in the DMV region (D.C., Maryland, Virginia). Answer trivia questions and win various prizes during this exciting event! Check out the Channel 9 (Washington, D.C.) feature that included Cassie’s experience with virtual bartending!
Virtual Homecoming 5K, ALL DAY
The Shenandoah University Alumni Association is hosting its FOURTH virtual 5K during our Virtual Homecoming 2020 festivities. We hope you’ll participate by running solo, with your family and friends, or with fellow alumni! Here’s what you need to do:
- Print out your very own bib
- Complete a 5K (running or walking; outside or on a treadmill)
- Take a photo with the bib after you’ve finished
- Share it with us via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or via social media by using #ShenandoahVirtual5K.
Everyone who participates in the Homecoming 2020 Virtual 5K will receive a free Hornets in Action sticker, and will be entered into a drawing to win exciting prizes!
Virtual Esports Homecoming Football Game, 1 p.m. (EST)
We are happy to showcase Shenandoah’s Esports program during our Virtual Homecoming celebrations this year! Even though fall sports have been postponed, we’re hosting a Virtual Homecoming Football Game, Shenandoah University vs. Randolph-Macon College! Our very own Daquan Pridget ’21, a senior defensive back for the Shenandoah Hornets football team, will take on a player from the Randolph-Macon College football team in Madden Football. Traditional halftime festivities will occur between the two matches, when we will recognize the Shenandoah University Homecoming Court and this year’s Homecoming Royalty. Tune in to cheer on Daquan!

Homecoming 2020 Contests & Virtual Freebies
To enter the contest, post a photo of your decorated house, office, classroom or residence hall room on social media and tag the Shenandoah University Alumni Association in your post, or email your photo to firstname.lastname@example.org. Deadline to submit photos is NOON on Tuesday, Oct. 13, with winners announced on Thursday, Oct. 15. The winners will be chosen by Shenandoah Conservatory Assistant Technical Director and Scene Shop Supervisor Michael “Jonz” Jones ’02 and then posted on the Homecoming webpage. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes will be awarded Amazon gift cards: 1st place, $50; 2nd place, $25; 3rd place, $20.
Pictures can be real or digital they can be photoshopped or cut and pasted. The only requirement is that they are unique and creative. Deadline to submit photos is NOON on Tuesday, Oct. 13, with winners announced and posted on Thursday, Oct. 15. The winners will be chosen by everyone’s favorite Campus Mail Manager Zoe and then posted on the Homecoming webpage. The winner will receive a $25 gift card to the campus bookstore.
