Dear Alumni Friends,
Fall in the Shenandoah Valley is so beautiful, and our campus is painted in warm yellow, burnt orange, raucous red and glam green – truly stunning. It has been a busy season already. We celebrated Homecoming, albeit a little damp, but warm in our hearts with friends and family on campus. There were over 10 events with something for everyone. My husband and I enjoyed meeting parents of first-year students who were thrilled with the Shenandoah experience. We even finished the Friday evening Old Town Crawl with our friends Linda and Ron Cahoon ’71!
Your alumni board held its fall meeting on October 15. Join me in congratulating our new board members: Phillip Ayers ’81, Paul Battista ’83, Nate Copeland ’85, Tim Deitz ’84 and Jason Guy ’11, ’15. It was inspiring to hear about their Shenandoah experience and how the university influenced their lives, including meeting their life partner at Shenandoah. A few had not been on campus for over two plus decades and needless to say were even a little lost with the growth that has occurred since they graduated. We met in a retreat style format to talk about the board of the future. We discussed our purpose, how we can continue to embrace our history from our roots in Dayton, recognize our current needs, and where we might go in the future to meet the needs of students, the university and alumni. In the words of board member, Linda Hall ’76, “The best is yet to come!” I hope you will share your thoughts with me so we can plan for the future. Email me at anne.lewis65@gmail.com.
Ahead of Veterans Day, I send a heartfelt thank you to all veterans especially our alumni veterans and their families who support them. The Armory Building on campus is being transformed into the university’s new Hub for Innovators, Veterans and Entrepreneurs (HIVE). The HIVE Groundbreaking will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11, outside the Armory Building (608 Millwood Ave., Winchester, VA 22601). We hope you will join us for this event to celebrate U.S. veterans, innovators and entrepreneurs.
Warm regards,
Anne
