Dear Alumni and Friends,
As 2017 comes to a close, so does the 28½-year career of Jane Pittman ’89 at Shenandoah University. To say that we will miss her is an understatement. Jane has worked for numerous departments at the university, but what sets her apart are the relationships she has made along the way. During the Holiday Gala, James R. Wilkins, Jr. created a scholarship in Jane’s honor for $100,000! If that does not speak to the depth of her relationships, I don’t know what does.
I asked fellow Alumni Board of Directors members to share some fun memories of Jane. Immediate Past President Becky Merriner ’01 and I agree that our favorite memory is her “Janeism.” Always know the difference between alumna, alumnae, alumnus and alumni. If you’re ever in doubt, please use alum. Otherwise, be prepared to be corrected by Jane. Also, if you are confused on the definition of these, please contact Jane!
I believe Pam Bell ’71, ’83 had the perfect description of Jane, in comparing her to the stage manager of the alumni board, and in particular of the executive committee. We always looked prepared and polished, as Jane had written our agendas, helped with speeches and kept us on schedule, never missing a beat.
From the entire board:
Jane, thank you for all you have done for us over the years. It has been a pleasure to work with you. We look forward to seeing what your next adventure will be once home in Ohio. We hope you enjoy the holiday season with Marilee and David, as well as some much deserved rest and relaxation. Cheers to a wonderful 28½ years!
