Crystal embarked on her career journey within the realm of a small, privately-owned pediatric outpatient practice. Her professional path has predominantly traversed early intervention and outpatient settings, reflecting her identity as an occupational therapist. It was in these formative years that her fervor for trauma-informed care practices flourished, nourished by both her experiences in early intervention and her personal journey. These experiences led her to select a doctoral program centered on mental health. She has advanced education in pediatric feeding and eating regarding infant and sensory practices. Crystal harbors a special passion for the global application of occupational therapy.
In addition to her clinical work, Crystal served as a co-chair within the pediatric department of her local North Carolina state association for a two-year term. Her dedication to advancing the field extends to her active participation in conferences, where she has shared her research findings on both national and global stages. Her insights have been sought after internationally and nationally, with invitations to present on occupational therapy and various healthcare topics.
Research:
Crystal has undertaken a range of research initiatives both prior to and during her tenure as an occupational therapist. Her research endeavors commenced during her undergraduate studies, initially centering around the pacer assessment. As she transitioned into her role as an occupational therapist, her research portfolio expanded to encompass diverse areas of study. These include investigations into the quality of life among adults with cerebral palsy, disparities in intercultural activities of daily living within the pediatric population, and the implementation of trauma-informed care practices in pediatric occupational therapy.
Presently, her research interests have evolved to delve into the attitudes of military personnel toward healthcare and the development of strategies to enhance the success of graduate students in their academic pursuits.

Personal Highlights:
Crystal is a member of a family of seven, which includes two dogs and one cat. Alongside her husband, Ross, she takes great pleasure in opening their home to foreign exchange students and holds a deep-seated passion for foster care. As a close-knit family unit, they share a profound love for exploration and consider travel as the ultimate means to fully engage with and comprehend the world around them.
Personally, Crystal finds joy in practicing yoga, diving into books, and immersing herself in the great outdoors. She often jests that she’s an avid hiker, though regrettably, she seldom finds the time to indulge in this pursuit.
