Provisional Admission for English Language Proficiency

If an applicant does not meet the minimum English Language Proficiency requirements but is otherwise admissible to the degree program for which they have applied at Shenandoah University, they may be offered provisional admission for English Language Proficiency. In order to meet the conditions for full admission, provisionally admitted students must provide proof of successful completion of the highest level offered at an approved English Language program.

Applying for Provisional Admission

1. Complete Application

Apply to and submit all requirements for your degree program (except Proof of Language Proficiency).

2. Complete an Approved English Language Program

Once you are provided provisional admission to your degree-program, enroll in and successfully complete an approved English language program. Each program’s standards for successful completion vary and are provided by the Individual organization. Completion of a CEA-accredited intensive English language program other than those listed below will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Students must seek approval from the Office of Admissions prior to starting a CEA-accredited program. Approval is not guaranteed.

3. Submit Proof of Completion and Report any Changes

Once you have successfully completed your English Language Program request official proof of completion be sent by the organization directly to Shenandoah University.

Provisional admission is valid for one year and contingent upon no change in academic record outside of enrollment in an English language program. If an admitted student registers for any post-secondary course(s), they must report it to Shenandoah University and provide an official transcript for the course(s). Depending on the change in academic record an admitted student’s admission may be rescinded, or they may have to reapply for admission to their program or reapply at a different level (e.g. apply as a transfer student instead of a first-year).

4. Provide Financial Documentation to Obtain an I-20

To be eligible to receive a SEVIS I-20 form from Shenandoah, please send financial information and documentation explaining how you plan to cover your educational and living expenses while studying at Shenandoah. To document your financial resources, you may complete the F-1 Visa Information Form and include support materials such as a signed affidavit of support and a copy of a recent bank statement.
