Shenandoah Conservatory Launches Student Chapter of the American String Teachers Association

Shenandoah Conservatory launched the Student Chapter: American String Teachers Association (SC:ASTA) this month and is officially associated with the national American String Teachers Association (ASTA). The goal is to form a more efficient and energetic student organization for the promotion of playing and teaching string instruments at Shenandoah University and provide a means of organizing activities and events for the students and the community.

Victor Brown Chair in Violin and Associate Professor of Strings Akemi Takayama, M.M., serves as the chapter’s advisor for SC:ASTA. Officers include president Signe Mortensen ’21 (Bachelor of Music in Music Education), vice-president Kyle Alperstein ’21 (Bachelor of Music in Music Education), secretary Jan Marie Laman ’21 (Bachelor of Music in Music Education), treasurer Karina Starling ’22 (Bachelor of Music in Music Education) and Shenandoah’s Student Government Association representative Layla Baker ’22 (Bachelor of Music in Performance).
