Weekly – Summer 2018 Highlights

Auxiliary Adjunct Associate Professor of Voice and Co-Founder of the CCM Vocal Pedagogy Institute Edrie Means Weekly ’84, M.M., was honored this summer to accept an invitation to be a member of the Scientific Advisory Board for the Voice Foundation. She presented two sessions, “Bringing the Song to Life: It’s a Matter of Style” and “Legit Singing in Musical Theatre” at the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) National Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. She authored a contributing chapter, “Hearty Country Jam with Vocal Stylisms,” in “The Voice Teacher’s Cookbook: Creative Recipes for Teachers of Singing.” She also presented “They’re Injured! 377 Voice Educators’ Retraining Approaches,” at the joint Pan-American Vocology Association/Voice and Speech Trainers Association Conference in Seattle. She additionally presented “Body & Voice: A Collaborative Approach for Addressing Voice Issues” with colleagues Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Professor of Dance Ting-Yu Chen, M.F.A., and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Voice (Soprano) Kathleen Bell ’20, M.M., at the same conference.

She presented two research papers, “Pathology Pathways Actors versus Music Theatre Singers” and “Do Vocal Performers Maintain Training Program Post College Degree,” with Rachelle Fleming, Linda Carroll and Gwen Korovin at the Voice Foundation Annual Symposium. Weekly was invited to sing at the Awards Gala at the symposium.

Weekly taught a 3-day continuing education course, Musical Theatre Singing Styles, for the CCM Vocal Pedagogy Institute at Shenandoah Conservatory this summer.
