Westray ’19 Works as Extra with ‘Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’

Musical theatre major Will Westray ’19 worked six days as a paid extra on “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” Written and directed by Amy Sherman-Palladino (“Gilmore Girls”), the series has won eight Emmy Awards and is available on Amazon’s Prime Video web streaming service.

“The overall experience was exciting because I was being exposed to so many new things and people,” said Westray. “Yet, it did call for a lot of patience while the production team had to set up and prepare for certain takes. I simply did what I was told when I was told and paid attention. I figured it was a big learning experience that I was getting paid to do. From the equipment, to the talented actors, and the production staff, it was all top notch and surreal. At the same time I realized that my peers and I are not that far off from this work. It’s a job, and a very fun one and everyone working on it was doing their job just like anyone else. It was a great experience.”

“I got paid to learn new things, and watch magic happen at a high caliber. The most amazing thing I learned was how normal it all felt.”
