Stravinskian Ballet-Inspired New Work by Newman Premieres This Fall

A new work by Director of Composition, Coordinator of New Music and Associate Professor of Composition Jonathan Newman, M.M., will premiere on Sept. 27, in Tallahassee, Florida. “Pi’ilani and Ko’olau” was commissioned by the Florida State University Wind Orchestra and is a large-scale imaginary Stravinskian ballet score based on the Hawaiian tale of colonialism, tragedy and murder, set to a fantastical scenario by playwright Gary Winter.
