Associate Professor of Voice (Tenor) Byron Jones ’04, D.M.A., and Coordinator of Conservatory Teaching and Graduate Assistantships and Associate Professor of Piano Karen Walker, D.M.A., were selected as presenters for the National Association of Teachers of Singing national conference in Knoxville, Tennessee, from June 26, through June 30, 2020. They will perform “Michael’s Letter to Mama” by Glen Roven. This iconic excerpt of modern LGBTQ fiction, from the “Tales of the City” series by author and activist Armistead Maupin, has influenced a generation of gay men and women as they struggled with coming out to their families and also grappled with society’s views of sexual orientation.
