Adjunct Assistant Professor of Music Theory Charlene Romano ’91, M.M., served as the “Ask the Pro” columnist for the January 2020 issue of Flute Talk magazine. Romano’s article was a response to a query from a high school student regarding preparation for college music theory, and additionally addressed the topic of college level remediation in music theory, and highlighted the many learning resources Shenandoah Conservatory’s theory division offers to students. Romano is a frequent contributor to Flute Talk, which has an international readership of students, professionals and adult amateurs.
Romano also continued to perform actively, most notably with the Rose Hill Chamber Orchestra at the Barns of Rose Hill for a “Downton Abbey” themed concert, and as a featured soloist on the Winchester Chapter of the American Guild of Organists’ Progressive Christmas Recital, a benefit for the Winchester Area Temporary Thermal Shelter and the Winchester Rescue Mission.
Romano maintains an active home studio and several of her private students recently earned top spots in the District XIV Honor Band, as well as the Mid-Atlantic High School Flute Choir.
