The music production & recording technology (MPRT) program hosted a virtual masterclass with masterful recording engineer Geoff Foster from Air Studios in London on Friday, May 1. Junior and senior MPRT students discussed film scoring and Foster’s approach to the recording process. Students were able to explore how to use the studio as a space where musicians feel comfortable to fail, allowing them to push themselves, and how recording engineers are charged to create that space. The group also talked about preparing for large and dynamic recording sessions and keeping everything organized under pressure. Foster also spoke on adapting to work in an industry heavily affected by COVID-19 shutdowns and how engineers can prepare now for what comes after.
