Shenandoah Conservatory Adopts New Mission Statement

Shenandoah Conservatory adopted a new mission statement this month:

“As a visionary and collaborative arts community, we educate motivated students in a supportive and inclusive environment and equip them for professional success.”

The statement was the result of a focused one-day retreat with Shenandoah Conservatory faculty and senior staff at the Barns of Rose Hill in Berryville, Virginia, in September, and the work of a writing team composed of both faculty and staff.

“The mission statement retreat work revealed a number of things,” said Shenandoah Conservatory Dean and Professor of Music Michael Stepniak, Ed.D. “Above all, it illuminated that attendees believed there are three values which are especially central to the conservatory: collaboration, support and inclusion. It’s also not surprising that the final mission statement would speak of community, and that it would simply and clearly affirm the focus of all our programs on students and their pre-professional training.”
