Shenandoah’s Division of Athletic Training Hosts ‘A Day in the Life’

MSAT students introduced local high schoolers to everyday skills practiced by athletic trainers

In honor of March being National Athletic Training Month, Shenandoah University’s Division of Athletic Training recently held its fourth “A Day in the Life” event for local high school students.

Seventy-six students from seven high schools – Central (Woodstock), Clarke County, James Wood, Millbrook, Page County, Sherando and Warren County – visited SU on Wednesday, March 9, and spent the morning with Shenandoah students in the Master of Science in Athletic Training program, who helped introduce their guests to the various skills practiced by athletic trainers.

The high school students were split into groups and spent 30 minutes at each of the six lab stations established throughout Henkel Hall and the Health and Life Sciences Building. The event provided an immersive experience that allowed high school students the chance to visit Shenandoah’s cadaver lab, practice splinting and bracing, learn more about concussion testing, and perform skills such as vertical jump and balance assessments.
