Mission
Shenandoah Conservatory Student Council builds community by facilitating communication between students, faculty and administration. We promote cross-disciplinary student work and student health and well-being. We represent the diversity of the student body by advocating for inclusion and equity at all levels of decision-making.
Goals
- Increase our presence, reach and visibility within the conservatory
- Make the Shenandoah Conservatory Student Council more accessible to students and amplify their voices
- Financially support the creative endeavors of conservatory students as much as possible
- Help close the gaps in communication between conservatory students, faculty and staff
- Collaborate with other student groups and organizations
- Assure the student body that we are a safe space
Meetings
The Shenandoah Conservatory Student Council meets weekly from 3 p.m. to 3:50 p.m. every Monday that academic classes meet. The council meets with the Shenandoah Conservatory deans once per month. The 2024/25 committees are Communications; Inclusion, Diversity & Equity; and Health & Wellness. If students have concerns or ideas they want the council to discuss they may email SCSC or submit it using the link in our Instagram bio. If you are interested in attending a meeting, email scsc@su.edu to schedule an invitation.
Membership
The Shenandoah Conservatory Student Council seeks motivated, involved individuals who are leaders amongst their peers. Each semester, council members and Shenandoah Conservatory faculty nominate conservatory students from all departments to be prospective members of the council.
Application information will be shared in our SCSC newsletters and on our Instagram (@shencostudentcouncil).

Support SCSC Grants
The Shenandoah Conservatory Student Council is raising money to provide a new opportunity for student support grants. These grants will provide support in addition to the funding presently made available through the Dean’s Circle for summer festivals, off-campus educational opportunities and professional development opportunities.
Give today and double your impact! The Dean’s Circle will match the first $300 in donations to create our Shenandoah Conservatory Student Council support grants fund. Donations at every amount make a big difference in a student’s experience at Shenandoah Conservatory and their future career.
Apply for SCSC Grants
Students are encouraged to apply for support of all types of projects and needs for classroom materials. Such opportunities include the creation of degree capstone projects, recordings of professional materials, the opportunity to obtain professional class materials and equipment, and more.
If you would like to apply for this exceptional grant, more information will be provided in the near future.
Make a Difference
The grant I received from the conservatory is truly what brought my ShenCoLAB project to life. The grant allowed some of the stress of costly things to be taken off my shoulders so that I could focus on the things that were most important to me, which was my artistic vision. I am very grateful for what the conservatory was able to provide for me and that my vision could come to life!
