Shenandoah Conservatory hosted its fifth annual Double Reed Camp from July 22, through July 27, as part of the nationally recognized Bocal Majority & Operation O.B.O.E. camp system. Assistant Dean for Recruitment and Associate Professor of Bassoon Ryan Romine, D.M.A., and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Oboe Stephen Key, Performance Diploma, worked with other faculty to provide masterclasses, reed-making sessions, chamber coachings and individual lessons to 44 residential and commuter campers. Such events are vital to the health of our region’s double reed community, as many of the campers are the only oboe or bassoon players at their schools.
