Jazz Ensemble Utilizes Virtual Compilation to Develop Musical Skills

The Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Auxiliary Adjunct Associate Professor of Jazz and Trumpet Craig Fraedrich, M.M., recently presented its first virtual compilation, “Lester Thinks Twice.” The recording featured Alex Lopez ’23 (Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies) on tenor sax, Nick Leasure ’23 (Bachelor of Music in Music Production & Recording Technology) on soprano sax and Chace Washington ’20 (Bachelor of Music in Music Production & Recording Technology) on drums.

Students recorded individual tracks and shared them with Fraedrich using Google Drive. Ensemble members evaluated the first take and provided suggestions and comments. Students then had the option of re-recording their tracks to make improvements, using the steadily improving tracks to record with. Participants recorded with whatever they owned: computers, phones or more sophisticated setups from a few of the music production & recording technology students.
