Jazz Ensemble Releases ‘The Gospel Truth’ Virtual Rehearsal Compilation

The Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Auxiliary Adjunct Associate Professor of Jazz and Trumpet Craig Fraedrich, M.M., recently released its third virtual rehearsal compilation, “The Gospel Truth.” This recording featured Jon Long-Leary ’23 (Bachelor of Music in Music Production & Recording Technology) on guitar, Matt White ’21 (Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies) on baritone sax and Evan Ripple ’21 (Bachelor of Music in Music Education) on trumpet with editing by Brett Orenstein ’21 (Bachelor of Music in Music Production & Recording Technology), Daniel Trout ’22 (Bachelor of Music in Music Production & Recording Technology) and Mark Quarles ’21 (Bachelor of Music in Music Production & Recording Technology) as well as video by Orenstein.

This is the third virtual rehearsal project video for the Shenandoah Conservatory Jazz Ensemble since live classes were canceled after spring break. We have slowed down our production rate, moving to a process and schedule we discussed in our Zoom meetings while increasing the educational engagement by having students take on a significant portion of the audio editing as well as all of the video production work.

The ensemble used the U.S. Army Blues’ “Blues + You” play-along tracks to help record the initial track for this video, which included nine complete charts with nine separate play-along configurations for each chart.
