Shenandoah University Named A College Of Distinction

SU recognized for providing student-centric learning experience

Shenandoah University has earned national recognition from Colleges of Distinction, a guide for college-bound students, for its commitment to helping undergraduate students learn, grow and succeed.

In addition to being recognized as a 2022-23 College of Distinction, Shenandoah was named a Virginia College of Distinction and earned additional recognition in the individual areas of Business, Education, Nursing, Career Development, Equity & Inclusion, and Military Support.

Colleges of Distinction goes beyond the overview of institutional data, statistics, and size of endowment typical of popular college guide classifications, and instead uses a selection process consisting of in-depth research and detailed interviews with schools. Colleges of Distinction accepts only the schools that adhere to four distinctions: engaged students, great teaching, vibrant community, and successful outcomes.

When we focus all of our attention on how schools stack up against one another, we lose track of what really matters: the students themselves. Every student has individual needs and their own environment in which they’re most likely to thrive. We want to extend our praise to the schools that prioritize and cater to students’ goals.”

Wes Creel, founder of Colleges of Distinction

Shenandoah, along with other Colleges of Distinction, earned recognition for student-centric programs and experiences such as diversity and global learning; first-year seminars; collaborative assignments and projects; service/community-based learning; internships; and capstone courses and projects.

Notable SU programs include:

We’re inspired by the ways in which Shenandoah University immerses students in their fields, all while fostering a welcoming community that will support them through and beyond their college years.”
