Romano and Short Receive Grant to Present at Pedagogy Conference

Adjunct Associate Professor of Musicianship Charlene Romano ’91, M.M., and Associate Professor of Music Theory and Embedded Music Theory Tutor Coordinator Rachel Short, Ph.D., received a Shenandoah University Interdisciplinary Faculty Development Grant to present at the 2022 Pedagogy into Practice Conference at Michigan State University in June. Additional funding was provided by the Shenandoah Conservatory Dean’s Circle. The theme of the 2022 conference was “Teaching Music Theory in the 21st Century.” Short and Romano presented a lively and well-attended discussion forum, “Creating a Space to Fail: Helping Students Develop Confidence In and Beyond the Music Theory Classroom.” Attendees ranged from senior faculty and administrators to junior faculty, graduate and undergraduate students. Participants were enthusiastic, and have continued to share ideas outside the bounds of the conference.
