Şen Presents ‘Sephardic Art Songs’ Lecture Recital at YIVO Institute for Jewish Research

Assistant Professor of Vocal Pedagogy Lori Şen, D.M.A., recently presented the lecture recital “Sephardic Art Songs” at the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research in New York City. The event showcased Dr. Şen’s ongoing research on Sephardic music and culture, offering an in-depth exploration of Sephardic history, language and musical traditions within the Western classical tradition.

Joined by Zoë Johnstone Stewart (guitar) and Andrew Stewart (piano), Dr. Şen performed works by composers including Alberto Hemsi, Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Lazare Saminsky, Joaquín Rodrigo, Joaquín Nin-Culmell and others.

A special highlight of the evening was the attendance of Diana Castelnuovo-Tedesco, granddaughter of the celebrated composer Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, who met with Dr. Şen following the performance. It was an evening full of meaningful connections, beautiful music and celebration of a rich cultural legacy.
