150 Years Founders’ Day Celebration

February 12 @ 4:30 pm

Shenandoah University will commemorate its 150th anniversary during a Founders’ Day celebration Thursday, Feb. 12, at 4:30 p.m. in Halpin-Harrison Hall, Stimpson Auditorium. The event honors the university’s founding in 1875, when Rev. A. P. Funkhouser opened a school in Dayton, Virginia, with 11 students, laying the groundwork for today’s institution. A highlight of the celebration will be the unveiling of the Andrei Kushnir Collection, a gift of 231 original oil paintings depicting Shenandoah Valley landscapes and historic sites that will be permanently displayed on campus. A viewing reception will follow the program. Founders’ Day provides an opportunity to reflect on Shenandoah’s history while celebrating its future.
