SU Establishes First Nationally Competitive Mock Trial Team

August 24, 2023 @ 12:30 pm - 1:45 pm

SU Establishes First Nationally Competitive Mock Trial Team For the first time, SU has joined the American Mock Trial Association National Competition(AMTA.) ATMA has over three hundred (300) participating universities. All teams will be provided with the same criminal case and will alternately argue the prosecution and defense. Regional competitions proceed to the national finals. Practicing litigation attorney, Professor Jeff Harding, JD, and SU graduate, started the program in the spring of ’23 with Mock Trial I (MTR I.) Professor Harding is assisted by two practicing litigation attorneys, Professor Keith Blankenship, JD, and Professor Matt Bass, JD, as well as visiting judges, attorneys and Commonwealth prosecutors. This fall, there are two classes-MTR I and MTR II, from which the competitive team will be comprised. MTR I (362) is a 3 credit introduction to trial advocacy. MTR II (363) is advanced trial advocacy. These exciting and fun classes are both T/Thurs 12:30-1:45 and 2-3, respectively. These are must courses for those who plan on graduate or law school and will improve your skills in all your undergraduate classes. Get in on this transformational experience! All students are encouraged to participate. Good luck to the historic Mock Trial Team. Go Hornets!
