What’s The Story: Understanding Toxic Masculinity

May 7 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

The Center for Story at Shenandoah Speaker Series continues on Tuesday, May 7 at 6 p.m. in Hester Auditorium! Director of Center for Story at Shenandoah Sean Murphy will be joined by Dr. Bryan Pearce-Gonzales to discuss the myriad implications of toxic masculinity in American culture. What is toxic masculinity, and how do received—and reinforced—notions of maleness hinder everything from positive dialogue and self-esteem to awareness and empathy? How do outmoded and harmful behaviors ranging from aggression to bullying continue to dominate our workplaces, politics, and classrooms? More importantly, how do we grapple with the negativity and create a more positive space for dialogue and inclusion? This discussion will provide insight, and stimulate conversation.

Audience Q&A will be encouraged throughout this informal, action-packed discussion. Pizza will be provided. For more information, contact Sean Murphy at Sean.murphy@su.edu.
