World Student Christian Federation Conference
October 19, 2023 - October 22, 2023
World Student Christian Federation Conference For over 100 years, the World Student Christian Federation has been at the forefront of the Christian Ecumenical movement. This year, their annual conference will be held at Elmhurst University, outside of Chicago, IL, and the Office of Spiritual Life will bring 8 students to attend this conference to network with other Christian student leaders committed to making responsible contributions within a community, a nation, and the world; discuss moral injustices of our time, including poverty, white supremacy, empire, and ecological devastation, and our role in addressing them locally, nationally, and globally; and organize strategies for creating a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive community locally, nationally, and globally. This year, the conference’s theme is “Radical Re-Membering” and is drawn from the story of the prophet Ezekiel and the dry bones. Attendees will engage in the embodied practices of movement, art, storytelling, and music as ways of healing from our own dis-memberment and as tools for building a new Christian community. Additionally, attendees will explore the topics of abolition, queer liberation, and ecological justice and how these topics connect to our Christian faith. Lastly, attendees will participate in Bible study, worship, and small group discussion to root us firmly our Christian tradition. The conference runs from October 19-22, 2023. Students who are interested in attending must email Chaplain Ian Urriola at iurriola@su.edu for information about how to provide a $15 deposit to secure your spot. After the trip, the deposit will be returned to all students who went on the trip.
