Office of Education Outreach

The Office of Education Outreach is a department within Shenandoah University’s Division of Education and Leadership (DEL) which provides professional and licensure courses approved by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) for alternative teacher licensure and recertification.

Many of these courses are available in Winchester, Leesburg and Fredericksburg.  A variety of recertification distance courses are also available year round.

What courses does OEO offer?
  • Teacher Recertification courses
  • Career Switcher Program (accelerated route to Virginia teaching licensure for qualified students)
  • Advanced Academic Dual Enrollment Courses (provides college credit to high school students)
  • Individual courses to meet school district needs

Please review the available courses, which meet VDOE requirements for recertification.

Does OEO offer a non-traditional path or a fast-track to Virginia teaching licensure?

We do!  For the past twelve years, Shenandoah University has offered the Career Switcher program.  Career Switchers is an accelerated route to licensure for adult students already holding a Bachelors degree from a regionally accredited university and at least 3 years full time work experience (or its equivalent).  Please visit the Career Switcher program for additional details.
