Actuarial Science Minor

Use Probability and Economics to Assess Real-World Risks

Actuarial science is the discipline that applies mathematical, statistical, and financial methods to assess, manage, and model risk, primarily for insurance, finance, and pension industries. Actuaries analyze data to predict the likelihood and financial impact of future events, such as accidents or natural disasters, helping companies develop profitable policies, set premiums, and ensure long-term stability. The actuarial science minor equips students with the math and finance knowledge to be successful in a career as an actuary.

Students in the actuarial science minor are highly encouraged to complete two Society of Actuaries exams and complete an internship in order to be very marketable after graduation. Students who minor in actuarial science also take a variety of classes with the business school, resulting in a more multidisciplinary experience. The average salary for entry level actuarial assistants is $85,000.
