Shenandoah University’s Center for Public Service and Scholarship will hold its annual Public Service Awards Banquet on Wednesday, Nov. 7, in the Ferrari Room of the Brandt Student Center on the university’s main campus. The event will begin with a reception at 5:30 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m. and a program to follow.
Each year, The Center for Public Service and Scholarship selects several public service leaders, ranging from national to local levels, to honor for their contributions.
This year’s honorees include Ambassador Ronald Neumann (ret.) of the American Academy of Diplomacy, former Virginia Senator Russ Potts, former Superintendent of Frederick County Public Schools Patricia Taylor, former Frederick Douglas Elementary School Principal Nancy Lee, former Quarles Elementary School Principal Jackie Ruff and former John Kerr Elementary School Principal Anita Jenkins.
In conjunction with the awards banquet, the university will host the 2012 Joseph J. Sisco Memorial Forum titled, “Diplomacy in the 21st Century,” beginning at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 7, in Halpin-Harrison Hall, Stimpson Auditorium on the university’s main campus.
This conference will explore major themes in diplomacy that are of importance to the U.S. and focus on what national interests are advanced in each realm of diplomacy being considered, including traditional, expeditionary and multilateral diplomacy. Panel members include Ambassador Neumann, as well as Ambassador Thomas Pickering (ret.), former Acting Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development Alonzo Fulgham and The Honorable Molly Williamson (ret.). “Diplomacy in the 21 st Century” is free and open to the public.
