Although various books have been penned about Winchester’s wartime experience, Brandon’s Beck’s updated guidebook offers a convenient tool for historians and buffs to visit and tour the sites associated with Winchester’s three battles. This profusely illustrated volume, with its excellent maps and detailed directions, offers an excellent overview of each battle placed into the conflict’s larger context. Descriptions of what occurred at each of the more than thirty stops outlined in the book are enhanced by carefully selected primary accounts. For anyone interested in Winchester’s Civil War experience this guidebook is essential.
