Three Music Education Alumni Help Launch New Music Program at Regent University
In early 2017, Regent University in Virginia Beach posted an opening for the first faculty position in its proposed new music program. During the past two years, development has been underway with the introduction of two choral ensembles, courses in music theory, sight-singing, music history and studies in private voice. In fall 2020, the plan will come to fruition as Regent offers bachelor’s degrees in church music, performance and music leadership.
Three conservatory alumni were instrumental in launching this new music program:
- Don Krudop ’75, ’92, ’03 (Bachelor of Music Education; Master of Music in Conducting and Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Education) was selected to fill the opening in that initial posting. He is the point of contact for the music program, serves as director of choral activities, teaches music theory and sight-singing classes, and oversees the vocal practicum studios. In December 2018, Regent’s University Choir was featured on the Christian Broadcasting Network’s “700 Club”; in March 2019, the University Choir and Chamber Choir collaborated on a concert with the choirs of Randolph-Macon College. He also holds a Master of Education in Administration (2005) from Regent University.
- Conni Ironmonger-Wood ’11 (Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Education) leads one of Regent’s two vocal practicum studios and directed Regent’s spring 2019 production of the musical “Little Women.”
- Martha Springstead ’08 (Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Education) serves as the accompanist for Regent’s University Choir and Chamber Choir as well as numerous vocal practicum students in Dr. Ironmonger-Wood’s studio. Dr. Springstead and her daughter Jane Springstead ’08 graduated together, Martha with her D.M.A, and Jane with her Bachelor of Music Therapy.
