O’Neill ’92 Attends Audio Education Conferences and Furthers Training During Summer Months

Director and Associate Professor of Music Production & Recording Technology Golder O’Neill ’92, M.M.E., participated in the 2020 Global Avid Learning Partner Summit during the summer. The event brings together all of the associated universities, schools and recording studios that offer educational services for Avid products. Topics discussed included the “new normal” for studios and production houses due to COVID-19, new software workflows and updates to Pro Tools Media Composer (Avid’s video editing software) and Sibelius, plus Avid’s posture as a company in this new age of virtual learning. O’Neill also completed the Avid Pro Tools training and recertification to teach Pro Tools Ultimate 2020/2021 for levels 101 and 110. Pro Tools is the recording industry’s leading Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) software.

In late July, O’Neill attended the Audio Engineering Society’s (AES) Audio Education Conference which was originally scheduled to be held at Middle Tennessee State University but was hosted virtually due to COVID-19 restrictions. The conference offered workshops addressing the needs of online learning in audio and new approaches for audio education in social isolation. Keynote speaker and AES President Dr. Agnieszka Roginska challenged audio educators to empower students with knowledge, direction, life skills and to be a part of the community.
