The Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) is celebrating National Volunteer Week with a look back at all of the amazing service that our students, faculty, and staff have put forward during the 2020-2021 school year.
Volunteering provides students with new experiences and perspectives that they might not get in the classroom. This type of activity helps us to build mutually beneficial relationships with community partners in the Winchester community. These connections are a part of SU’s mission of inspiring compassionate citizens who are committed to making responsible contributions within a community, a nation and the world.”
Keith Jones Pomeroy, M.A. | Director of Civic Engagement
Throughout this year, and despite the pandemic, the CCE has engaged over 140 volunteers who have completed almost 7,000 hours of service (this does not include the dozens of students who volunteered hundreds of hours at the COVID-19 vaccine clinic)!
From gleaning corn to helping stock local food banks to cleaning at the Adult Care Center of the Northern Shenandoah Valley, the generous individuals of Shenandoah University have given their time and talents to bring light and life to many incredible charitable and community endeavors.
It’s important to contribute to the local community in a meaningful way and build a better future through service and humility.”

We are privileged to not have to worry about challenges like where our next meal is coming from, so I feel it is our responsibility to help those who aren’t as privileged.”

Despite the challenges of COVID-19 and social distancing, Shenandoah has been able to come together to do just that.
