Gawason ’25 Uses Tambour Beadwork to Create Cinderella’s Ball Dress for ‘Into the Woods’

Travis Gawason ’25 (Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Design & Production – Costume Design) interned at Eric Winterling, a professional costume shop in Manhattan, this past summer. The company provided costumes for the TV show “Mrs. Maisel,” among many other Broadway shows and films.

The tambour beadwork that Travis learned at Eric Winterling led to a project for him for Shenandoah Conservatory’s recent production “Into the Woods” that ran earlier this month.

“I found an interest in tambour beadwork,” said Gawason, “and I was lucky enough to get an opportunity to express my creativity and knowledge in creating Cinderella’s ball dress for the recent production of ‘Into the Woods.’ After the design was given to me, I created this dress from the ground up, beading the intricate green and gold leaf vines that wrapped around the dress.”
