Newman in Residence at Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts

Director of Composition, Coordinator of New Music and Associate Professor of Composition Jonathan Newman, M.M., is a resident at the Kimmel Harding Nelson (KHN) Center for the Arts in Nebraska City, Nebraska, from Feb. 12, through March 8.

“During my residency at the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center, I’ve been working on several sabbatical projects, including a piano trio, a new work for the Akropolis Reed Quintet, and a commission for the 70th anniversary of a large ensemble in Chicago,” said Newman. “The tranquility, uninterrupted time, and interaction with the other resident artists is ideal for creation, and the residency goes well!”

The mission of the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts is to support established and emerging writers, visual artists and composers by providing working and living environments that allow uninterrupted time for work, reflection and creative growth and to present and support arts-related programming that expands public awareness and appreciation of the arts.

Since 2001, KHN has hosted more than 50 working artists each year, including a combination of visual artists, writers, composers, and interdisciplinary artists. In this environment, artists find both the privacy needed to generate creative work and ample opportunities to interact with fellow artists in a vibrant and friendly community in the rolling bluff country of eastern Nebraska.
