New Interdisciplinary Graduate Music Therapy Program Launches This Fall

In partnership with Shenandoah University’s Division of Counselor Education, the Shenandoah Conservatory music therapy program has launched a new graduate degree, the Master of Arts in Music Therapy & Professional Counseling. This interdisciplinary degree integrates clinical mental health counseling and music therapy coursework to provide a comprehensive education that fulfills the academic requirements to become a Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) and Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia (LPC).

“This is an exciting collaboration, reflecting advances in the field of music therapy that focus on a broad range of mental health practices,” said Director of Music Therapy Studies, Coordinator of Graduate Music Therapy and Professor of Music Therapy Anthony Meadows. Ph.D. “Students are immersed in studies that prepare them for professional practice as a music therapist and then shift their focus to counseling practice, allowing them to integrate their knowledge and skills across professions.”

Applications for Fall 2025 are now being accepted. Visit su.edu to learn more and apply for the program.
