Costume Design Students Create Leather Masks for ‘Falstaff’

Costume design students participated in a leather working workshop with master leather artisan Wheeler “Doc” Stone on Sunday, April 13, to create custom masks for Shenandoah Conservatory’s upcoming main stage opera production of Giuseppe Verdi’s final masterpiece, “Falstaff,” which opens later this month in Ohrstrom-Bryant Theatre. Stone guided the students as they brought their concepts to life during the workshop.

Stone has been a leather artist and metal worker for more than 25 years and is recognized for his designs worldwide. His commitment to excellence is seen in the quality of his work and in the rave reviews from his clientele. Stone’s visit was organized by Costume Designer and Associate Professor of Costume Design Jennifer Flitton Adams, M.F.A.
