Shenandoah Wins Big in National Esports Tourney

Teams Take First and Second Place in Respective Games

Shenandoah University’s esports program now has a national win under its belt, with its Rocket League team taking first place in the National Esports Collegiate Conference Division IV tournament. 

The team, featuring players Griffin Horacek, Wyatt Maddox, Thomas Terry, and Sean Csizmadia, beat Southern Nazarene University, 4-1, to take the title. 

I am immensely proud of our varsity Rocket League team for earning themselves the Division IV NECC Nationals title,” said Shenandoah University Esports Director Alyssa Duran. 

Additionally, Shenandoah’s Super Smash Bros Ultimate team took second place at nationals. 

“Shenandoah Esports, with [Coordinator of Esports Competition Fernando Preciado-Leal] at the helm of our competitive program, has been restructuring our team format to focus on player wellness, mental readiness, and development pathways for incoming players,” Duran said. “The Rocket League team has fully embraced this new structure and has worked holistically to improve their game. This is a significant milestone in their competitive journey, but I am confident that it won’t be their last!”
