Physical Therapy at Shenandoah University
Shenandoah University’s Division of Physical Therapy prepares students as doctorally educated physical therapists who are reflective, collaborative practitioners that provide evidence‐based, compassionate and ethical care for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of movement dysfunction across the global community.
We accomplish this through an integrated, patient-centered curriculum with a low student/faculty ratio. Frequent patient care experience, community service by students and faculty and the integration of current technologies are key components of the PT education at Shenandoah University.
The Physical Therapy Program at Shenandoah University is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).

Physical Therapy Degree Programs
The Division of Physical Therapy offers a Doctorate in Physical Therapy through two different programs, the traditional program and the post professional program and also offers the option to pursue a dual degree with a Doctor of Physical Therapy and a Master of Science in Athletic Training.
Physical Therapy (PT) is a challenging and satisfying profession — one with many career pathways from which to choose. The wide range of clinical settings, the diversity of the patient populations, and the variety of specialty areas provide a vast array of employment and professional growth opportunities for the new graduate. Earning a DPT degree in the post professional program prepares the practicing physical therapist for advanced practice in an ever-changing healthcare environment and opportunities for PT faculty positions.

Clinical Education
Clinical Education is a cornerstone of the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) curriculum at Shenandoah University. Students begin their hands-on clinical training in the second semester of the first year and continue gaining practical experience throughout the program. They are mentored by accomplished clinicians across a wide range of practice settings, including both ambulatory and non-ambulatory care. With more than 900 clinical contracts, SUPT places well-prepared students in local, regional, national, and international settings.
Graduates emerge as entry-level generalist clinicians, equipped to meet the diverse and evolving demands of the physical therapy profession. Students also have the opportunity to tailor their clinical experiences to areas of interest such as pediatrics, sports medicine, neurology, acute care, orthopedics, and pelvic health.
