The Writing Center seeks to develop more confident student writers through one-to-one coaching in brainstorming, drafting, revising, and editing.
The Shenandoah University Writing Center takes as its primary mission one-to-one writing support for all SU students. Conferences between students and writing coaches, either face-to-face or online, enable students to learn productive skills in brainstorming, drafting, revising, and editing. Using non-directive and collaborative instructional techniques, the center’s team encourages students to take ownership of their writing and understand consultation as a valuable part of composing. The ultimate goal of the Writing Center is to develop more capable and confident student writers. When students leave after an appointment, they will be further equipped to produce writing on their own. Students are welcome to bring any writing projects connected to classes or materials they are developing for other purposes, such as resumes, cover letters, and creative projects.
The Center also strives to promote and support writing across the curriculum, serving students from all courses at all levels.
Make an Appointment
- Visit Star.su.edu
- Select the “Schedule a tutoring appointment” tile.
- Choose “Writing Center,” and search.
- Once the pop-up window appears, scroll through to find a time and tutor that works with your schedule.
- Select the session that works best for you and add any notes or information you would like to let the tutor know.
- You can also click the “Load More” button at the bottom of the screen to see more available dates.
- Blue slots indicate that the time is set up for drop in visits – no appointment is necessary. You can simply drop by the Writing Center on the 3rd floor with your document (or log in for a zoom session). The green slot is an appointment-based option, so you can click on that to schedule your session. Press “save,” and your appointment is all set up!
