An on-campus audition, interview, and/or portfolio review day includes curriculum sessions with faculty, information sessions for parents and students,
campus and conservatory facilities tours; and, as applicable, music skills assessment, interview, written theory diagnostic and a performance audition.

On-Campus audition dates (Recommended)
Whenever possible, auditions, interviews and portfolio reviews will be held live on campus, but opportunity for virtual and recorded submissions are offered.
Your audition day will include:
- Meeting with faculty within your major area of interest to discuss curriculum specifics, performance opportunities, and any other questions you may have.
- Admissions information covering topics such as the application process, GPA requirements, AP, IB and dual enrollment credits and more.
- Scholarship and Financial Aid information.
- Speaking with current students about their Shenandoah experience.
Jazz applicants: must provide a recorded accompaniment (such as the “iReal” app, an online backing track, or something similar) for the jazz portion of the audition.
Contemporary Musicianship & Entrepreneur Development (CMED) voice students: must accompany themselves (singer-songwriter) or have a recorded accompaniment (voice: non-singer-songwriter).
Voice applicants (all majors): piano accompaniment will be provided for all on-campus auditions.
Woodwind, Brass, Strings, Percussion, Piano applicants (all majors): accompaniment is not required.
Virtual Auditions
Virtual auditions are offered on specific dates for all programs, with the exception of Musical Theatre and Dance. Applicants wishing to complete their audition virtually should complete their registration a minimum of two weeks prior to the date and have Zoom software capabilities.
Musical Theatre and Dance applicants must complete a live audition – on campus or at a scheduled off-campus Musical Theatre or Dance event.
Whenever possible, auditions, interviews and portfolio reviews will be held live on campus or online. Students with internet stability issues or audition day conflicts may email Admissions (admit@su.edu) to request to submit a recorded audition or alternative interview date. Virtual Audition registration will open on October 1.
It is strongly recommended that applicants verify the requirements with their admissions counselor prior to submitting a recorded audition.
